“Bitter” Pill

Because I was on vacation I missed Barack Obama’s “bitter” comment. Thanks to the Wall Street Journal, here’s the whole thing:

“You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive Administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

So white trash “cling” to guns, religion, racism, and protectionism because they are bitter about their economic circumstances? So the obvious answer is to salvage their economic condition and they we’ll have the “kingdom” on Earth and people won’t need guns or religion or all those other things (I thought Obama was pro-protectionism).

As the WSJ says: “This is Mr. Obama’s inner Mike Dukakis.” This is liberal condescension to middle America. We’re all boobs who think guns and religion will give our live meaning but what we need is Obama.

What’s amazing is this bitter controversy has lasted a week. The more people find out about Obama, the less attractive he appears.
